Louis Menand writes a great article about Jack Kerouac and the Beats in the latest New Yorker (read it here), discussing the myths and realities about the creative process of this loose collection of writers and poets. Well worth checking out.
Anyway, for your viewing pleasure, here’s Kerouac reading from “On the Road” on the Steve Allen Show in 1959 (check the jazz phrasing so evident in his writing):
